Riding The Bus

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS

Mason Transit Provides the Volunteer Driver Program through a partnership with Lewis-Mason-Thurston Agency on Aging. Funding to operate services is received from the Federal Older Americans Act, State Senior Citizens Services Act, as well as donations made by recipients.  The program serves individuals over the age of 60 who are unable to access the regular routed bus service and who are not currently recipients of Medicaid services.

Although there is no charge to the rider for this service, donations are always gladly accepted. We ask that donations be delivered in person to Mason Transit at 790 E. Johns Prairie Road, Shelton or mailed to PO Box 1880, Shelton, WA 98584. Our Volunteer Drivers have pre-addressed envelopes for your use as they do not accept or handle money.

The Volunteer Driver Program is able to provide transportation outside Mason County to medical appointments, nutritional services, shopping and social services. Service is generally provided on a first-come, first-served basis; however, emphasis is placed on transportation needed to kidney dialysis centers in Kitsap, Mason and Thurston Counties.

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED!

Want to give back to your community?  Mason Transit is looking for volunteers!

Volunteers drive their own vehicles and are screened by Mason Transit for past driving history, criminal history and child & adult abuse history. They also complete a questionnaire, which provides Mason Transit with such information as how often or on what days the Volunteer prefers to drive, and to what locations they are willing to drive. The Volunteer is given an orientation, offered classes in First Aid/CPR, Defensive Driving and Passenger Assistance, and are reimbursed at the IRS maximum allowable rate per mile. When a ride request is made to Mason Transit, a Volunteer will be contacted and offered the opportunity to provide the transportation.

Whether you are a Mason County resident in need of Volunteer transportation, or whether you are interested in serving your community as a Volunteer driver, we hope you will give us a call at 426-9434 or 1-800-281-9434.
