Mason Transit Authority hereby gives notice that it is the policy of MTA to assure full compliance with the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and related statutes and regulations in all programs and activities.
What is Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
Title VI requires that no person in the United States of America shall, on the grounds of race, color, gender, or national origin be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity for which MTA receives federal financial assistance.
What is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation. It also mandates the establishment of TDD/telephone relay services. The current text of the ADA includes changes made by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (P.L. 110-325), which became effective on January 1, 2009.
How to file a Title VI or ADA Violation Complaint?
Any person who believes they have been aggrieved by an unlawful discriminatory practice under Title VI or ADA has right to file a formal complaint. Any such complaint must be in writing and filed one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of alleged discrimination. The complaint should include the following information:
- Your name, mailing address, and how to contact you (i.e., telephone number, email address, etc.),
- Identify if the compliant is a Title VI and/or ADA violation complaint,
- How, when, where and why you believe you were discriminated against. Include the location, names and contact information of any witnesses, and
